Hello, he is sound activated and you can not connect a step pad.Q: Does the clown jump out on his own or do you have to wind the handle to make it work?

Hello! You do not have to hand crack this Clown in the box. However, he doesn't actually go back in the box. If you watch our handy dandy video he kind of shakes in place and makes a creepy noise Hope this helps!
